Being located in the remote South Pacific, New Zealanders needed to endure long sea voyages to attend the early Olympics. Ngati Ranana London Maori club and The National Trust had the honour of hosting a powhiri followed by a barbecue lunch for the New Zealand Olympic team at the Hinemihi marae next to Clandon House.
